Baja Review

Lunch at Benny’s Restaurant is a Real Treat

Opened recently by a well-known Tijuana chef, Benny’s is offering a new and creative menu for Baja residents as well as tourists.  Even the tacos are not the same.  Genuine Marlin makes the difference, just one example of what’s new.  Our visit to this new and delightful restaurant included arriving at the 2 PM happy hour when four different flavored Margaritas were offered along with Martinis and a couple of other items.  The amazing part is that they were delicious and only $1.50.

The bartender, Andres, surprised us with a complimentary shooter of strawberry margarita edged with chili.  Yum.

Juanita, our waitress, kept things moving and was well informed about the menu ingredients.  It was evident she is proud to be part of Benny’s, and why not?

The Shrimp Risotto got rave reviews from me, with large butterflied shrimp on a bed of perfect risotto and pesto.  My companions raved about their house salads and the cream corn soup.  And the poorly named shrimp burger was much more than that.  Whole, grilled shrimp on a bun with bacon, avocado and cheese deserves a much more elegant name.

The prices were very fair and lower than competing businesses.  Very impressive.  We loved meeting Benny and it won’t be the last time.  There were too many things inviting on the menu not to go back…again and again.

Benny’s is located on the rocks where the old Splash enjoyed many years of success.  Use the La Cuenca Lechera exit from the Toll Road.
